Stage - structured models for interacting wild and sterile mosquitoes
نویسنده
چکیده
Using the sterile insect technique,in which sterile mosquitoes are released to reduce or eradicate the wild mosquito population,is an effective weapon to prevent transmission of mosquito-borne diseases. To study the impact of the sterile insect technique on the disease transmissions,we formulate stage-structured discrete-time mathematical models, based on difference equations, for the interactive dynamics of the wild and sterile mosquitoes. We incorporate different strategies for releasing sterile mosquitoes, investigate the model dynamics, and compare the impact of the different release strategies. Numerical examples are also provided to demonstrate dynamical features of the models.

Mathematical Modelling of Sterile Insect Technology for Mosquito Control
Reduction of mosquito populations will, at least, reduce substantially the transmission of malaria disease. One potential method of achieving this reduction is the environmentally-friendly population control method known as the Sterile Insect Control (SIT) method. The SIT method has so far not been widely used against insect disease vectors, such as mosquitoes, because of various practical diff...

We formulate a homogeneous model and a stage-structured model for the interactive wild mosquitoes and mosquitoes carrying genetically-modified bacteria. We establish conditions for the existence and stability of fixed points for both models. We show that a unique positive fixed point exists and is asymptotically stable if the two boundary fixed points are both unstable. The unique positive fixe...

The use of sterile males to control a cage population of a laboratory strain of Anopheles quadrimaculatus was not successful, even though 80 to 90% of the females laid sterile egg clutches. At the ratio of sterile males to normal males being used, complete sterility should have been quickly achieved. Subsequent studies of the survival and sexual vigor of these sterile males indicated that only ...

The release of genetically-modified or sterile male mosquitoes offers a promising form of mosquito-transmitted pathogen control, but the insights derived from our understanding of male mosquito behaviour have not fully been incorporated into the design of such genetic control or sterile-male release methods. The importance of aspects of male life history and mating behaviour for sterile-male re...
متن کاملMathematical model to assess the control of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes by the sterile insect technique.
We propose a mathematical model to assess the effects of irradiated (or transgenic) male insects introduction in a previously infested region. The release of sterile male insects aims to displace gradually the natural (wild) insect from the habitat. We discuss the suitability of this release technique when applied to peri-domestically adapted Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which are transmissors of Y...
